Simmer ham bone in enough water to cover for 4 hrs. Approx. 10 cups. Remove bone and ham, save broth. At the same time ham is cooking soak beans in cold water. After removing ham add beans to broth and bring to a boil. Add all other ingredients to broth, bring to boil.
