Rinse lentils. Place beans in large pot with 8 cups of water. Add jalapeno, tumeric and salt to taste. Bring to boil, then reduce heat and allow to simmer for up to 2 hours.Melt butter in non stick frying pan. Add sliced onion and saute' over medium low heat until onions are very soft and brown.
