Combine herbs and reserve 1 teaspoon for sprinkling.In a large bowl, mix 2 cups flour, yeast, sugar, and unreserved herbs. Heat buttermilk, water, and shortening until warm. Add to dry ingredients. Add egg and mix until moistened. Gradually stir in 3 to 4 cups to make a firm dough.Knead until smooth (5 to 10 minutes). Cover and let rise in greased bowl for 1/2 hour. Punch down. Divide in half and form 2 loaves. Make diagonal slashes, cover and let rise until light and double, approximately 30 minutes. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with reserved herbs.
