What Are The Ingredients For Canadian Spaghetti Sauce Recipe?The ingredients for Canadian Spaghetti Sauce are: 8 slices baon, 2 onions, 2-8 oz pkgs. sliced button or cremini mushrooms or a mix of both, 1-12oz can of beer, 2 sweet peppers preferably in different colors, 2 carrots, 2-28oz cans of diced plum tomatoes, 1- 6oz can tomato paste, 2 TBL maple syrup or brown sugar, 10 garlic cloves, 2 whole bay leaves, 2 Tbl, dried basil, 2 Tbl dried. 1/4 tsp of hot sauce or hot chili flakes, 1/4 tsp black pepperHow Do I Make Canadian Spaghetti Sauce?Here is how you make Canadian Spaghetti Sauce: Slice bacon into thin strips. Place in a large saucepan set over medium heat. Cook until crisp 6 to 8 minutes. Meanwhile finely chop onions. When bacon is crispy, add mushrooms. Stir often until they start ot soften (4 to 6 min). Stir in onion, pour in beer. Scrape up and stir in any brown bits from the pan bottom. Increase heat to high. Boil, stirring occasionally to develop flavor - 5 minutes. Meanwhile, chop peppers and carrots into bite sized pieces. Stir tomatoes into beer mixture. Using a potato masher or wooden spoon, gently crush tomatoes. Then stir in peppers, carrots, tomato paste, maple syrup, garlic, seasonings and bay leaves.Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium low. Simmer, uncovered and stirring often until suace is thickened - 25 to 30 minutes. Discard bay leaves. Toss with cooked spaghetti. Sauce will keep well, covered and refrigerated up to 5 days or freeze up to 3 months. Side note: I like to simmer my sauce longer than the 30 minutes... I find that one hour simmering bring out all the flavors and cooks all the veggies beutifully.
