1. Heat oil and add lentils, cumin seeds, peppercorns and dried chili and stir fry until lentils are golden brown. Remove from heat, cool and grind to a smooth powder.2. Melt butter and add mustard seeds and asafoetida. When the seeds splutter add ginger and stir 30 secs.3. Add tomatoes, 2 cups water, salt to taste, ground powder and bring to boil.
