1 1/4 C yellow cornmeal
2 1/2 salt
2 packages yeast
1/3 C softened margarine or butter
2/3 C molasses
2 1/4 very warm water


How Do I Make Anadama Bread?

Here is how you make Anadama Bread:

Mix wheat flour, cornmeal, salt, and yeast. Heat water til very warm and add molasses and margarine cut into small pieces. Add water mixture to flour mixture. Stir until well combined. Add in enough flour to make a stiff dough. Turn out onto floured board and knead until smooth and elastic. Place in greased bowl turning to coat top. Cover and let rise until double (about 1 hour) Punch down dough, divide into two pieces, shape each into a loaf and put in greased loaf tins to rise. Cover and let rise til doubled (about 30-45 min). Bake in preheated oven (375) 30-45 minutes or until bottoms of loafs sound hollow when tapped and tops are browned.
