1 Quart milk
1 Cup sugar
2 yeast pkg.
1 Cup shortening or Lard
1 ? tsp salt
1 ? tsp baking powder
12 Cups flour
2 beaten eggs


How Do I Make German Soft Pretzels?

Here is how you make German Soft Pretzels:

Heat milk, add sugar and shortening till melted. Cool to Luke warm. Dissolve yeast in ? cup of warm water, with a sprinkle of sugar. Add milk mixture and yeast (when bubbling) to half of the flour. Stir till even, then add beaten egg, remaining flour with baking powder and salt. Knead well, let raise until double. Punch down and shape into pretzels. Let rise until light. Dip in solution of water and lye ( 2 tsp. per 8cups water, or substitute baking soda 8 tsp) Place on cookie sheet waxed with bees wax or baking spray.
