How Do I Make Hashwa (Yellow Split Pea and Potato Stuffing)?

Here is how you make Hashwa (Yellow Split Pea and Potato Stuffing):

pick through the split peas, then wash and drain at least 3 times until water runs clearadd split peas to small pot, add 3 cups of water, bring to a boil, cover and simmer for 25 to 30 minutes. Check at 25 minutes. You want the split peas to be cooked but still a bit hard..not soft and mushy.Lightly fry the potatoes until golden brown. Drain and set aside.Fry the onions until translucent.Drain the raisins and add to the onion. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute. Add the spices and the salt and pepper.Lower heat/fire to low.Add the cooked lentils and the cooked potatoes. Mix gently to blend all ingredients together.Add 1/4 cup water and gently mix. Let cook without covering for 5 minutes until water is gone.Serve.Note: Of course the oil makes the dish very high in fat . Please leave comment if you have a suggestion on how I can make this lower in fat...the potatoes need to be golden brown in the original recipe.
