How Do I Make Hash Browns?

Here is how you make Hash Browns:

Wash and shred the Potato, soak in bowl of cold water for at least 15 minutes, drain and rinse. This will remove excess starch from the potatoes. Remove all excess water from potatoes, I put them in my salad spinner and spin a couple of times, pouring off water in between spins. You can also put on a towel and roll up squeezing as you go. Once you have "dried your potatoes, put a grill pan or lg skillet on med high heat, rub a little bacon grease or olive oil on pan with a paper towel. When pan is hot, put your potatoes on in a nice even layer. Season with salt free seasonings and pepper.Cook for about 7 minutes, check to see if they are brown, then drizzle about 1 Tablespoon of grease on top, turn and brown on the other side. Do not keep turning, if the first side wasn't brown enough, then after browning the second side you can turn again to crisp them up.Serving Size: Makes 3 1-cup servingsNumber of Servings: 1Recipe submitted by SparkPeople user FFUDGG.
