1 tsp salt
1 egg
1/2 cup water
4 T butter (1/2 stick)
1/2 onion, cut in slices and sauteed (optional)


How Do I Make Homemade Peirogi?

Here is how you make Homemade Peirogi:

Mix together flour and salt. Stir in egg. Add water and stir until dough forms. You may need to add a little more or a little less water.Using 1/2 of your favorite filling recipe (nutrition info not included - see individual recipes under Peirogi Meat Filling, Peirogi Potato Filling, Peirogi Sauerkraut Filling, or Periogi Cheese Filling) fill small pieces of dough as described below.Cut dough into 24 pieces. Roll or pat each piece into small circles. Place one tsp of filling in the center of each circle being careful not to get filling on edges. Fold circles in half and press edges together to seal.Boil dumplings in lightly salted water for about 3-4 minutes. Drain dumplings and place in melted butter and toss with sauteed onions, if desired.
