Prepare the glass canning jars or plastice containers.In a large saucepan coursely mash the strawberries. Add 1/4 cup of the sugar and pectin, stiring until blended. Let come to a boil, stir in remaining 2 1/2 cups of sugar. Return to a full boil. Countine boiling, stirring constantly for 1 minute. Remove from heat and skim off foam.Divide into jars, keeping jam 1/2 inche away from tops, wipe rims clean. Turn on lids tightly, let stand at room temp for 24 hours.
