2 stalks of celery, chopped finely
1/4 C onion, chopped finely
1 tbsp parsley, chopped
1/4 tsp baking powder
2 tsp sesame seed
1/4 tsp ground turmeric
1/4 tsp ground cumin
1 egg
1 clove garlic, chopped finely


How Do I Make Low Fat Falafels?

Here is how you make Low Fat Falafels:

Drain and rinse chick peas.In a bowl, mash chick peas with fork or potato masher. Stir in celery, onion, parsley and baking powder. (I use a food processor to chop the celery and onion. They come out a lot finer than if I chopped them by hand. DO NOT put chick peas in food processor).In a separate bowl, combine sesame seed, turmeric, cumin, egg and garlic. Blend or whisk together until well blended. Poor into chick pea mixture and stir until well blended.Cover and let stand for 1 hour.With wet hands, shape until 1" balls. Flatten slightly and place on lightly greased nonstick baking sheet. Bake at 350*F for 15 minutes or until lightly browned.Makes 5 servings1 serving = 5 falafelsServe with your favourite dip as a snack or in a pita with other toppings of choice for a whole meal.
