How Do I Make Rose's Decadent French Toast?

Here is how you make Rose's Decadent French Toast:

1. Beat the eggs well (remove the white stringy bits if you can and they look big--you don't want that ending up on your toast). Add the sugar. Beat well until it's creamy. Add the cornstarch and water. Beat well. Add the milk and nutmeg. Beat well. Pour into a large casserole dish big enough for the bread slices to lay flat.2. Slice the bread into 3/4" slices or so; it doesn't have to be exact. Lay them in the pan, soak 'em good, then turn. Preheat a griddle or skillet. The longer the bread soaks the better the end product will taste, but don't let them dissolve.3. Fry the bread till golden on both sides in a little oil on medium heat. Remove to plates. Do whatever you want with toppings.4. Serve immediately. I've heard rumors that you can let this set overnight in the fridge and it turns into sheer deliciousness that can be baked, but I'm too chicken to try it. A variation of this dish (with savory custard and ham and cheese tucked between the slices of bread) turns into Breakfast Sandwich Casserole, a favorite in the American Deep South.Serving Size: 2 servings of 3 pieces eachNumber of Servings: 2Recipe submitted by SparkPeople user AWHOLENEWROSE.
