3 teaspoons crushed red pepper
2 teaspoons cardamom powder
1 tsp cinnamon
3 teaspoons tumeric powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 can light coconut milk

Here is how you make Indian Red Lentil Dal:

Makes about 6 cups--6 big servingsWash lentils, cook til soft in about 5 cups water.Dry roast all spices for about three minutes in a fry pan, set aside. Put in 1 tsp oil, fry onions and garlic til fragrant and well cooked, add roasted spices, cook and stir careful not to burn, another 3 minutes. Decide if you like the moisture in the lentils, take out some water if you think there is too much. Add roasted spice-onion garlic mixture and coconut milk, stir well and cook together about 5 minutes. Add lemon juice, check for salt.Eat with basmati rice, or veggies, or pita bread.
