This is apparently the secret to having healthy bowels. Made them last night with a few modifications. I used pumpkin (you can use any fruit puree instead of apple sauce) threw in some oat bran instead of the full flour called for, and used greek yogurt instead of low fat yogurt or buttermilk, just to make it healthier. Apparently one every day for breakfast and your bowels are perfect.

In a large bowl beat together
1/2 c margarine/oil/butter
1/2 c brown sugar (or splenda)
1/2 c white sugar
2 eggs

then add
1/2 c pureed or crushed fruit (next time I will likely up this to 1 1/2 c to make it fruitier.) eg applesauce, banana, pumpkin, pineapple, peaches to give a variety to the flavor)

in a large measuring cup mix
1 1/2 c buttermilk/low fat yogurt/greek yogurt (plain)
1 tsp baking soda

and add to above

mix the following together separately
1/2 flour
1/2 c oat bran
3 cups wheat bran
1 cup raisin/cranberries/apricots/cherries (could be part nuts too if you want)

add dry mix to the above wet mixture, beating with no more than 20 strokes)

Bake at 400F for 22 minutes
makes 12 - but I sliced in pan to 15 and froze most of them to thaw in time for each morning. - you can also put in muffin tins.
