* Baking Powder, 1 tbsp
* Granulated Sugar, 1 tbsp

* Milk, 2%, 1.25 cup
* Eggs, 1 large
* Margarine, soft, 3 tbsp


How Do I Make Barley Pancakes?

Here is how you make Barley Pancakes:

Step one! Get your griddle or frying pan heating. You want medium heat. If you set it too high, your pancakes will burn before being completely cooked on the inside. If you don't trust it to be non-stick enough to let go of the pancakes, give it a light lubing with the oil or spray of your choice.Mix the first five dry ingredients together and stir, or for the overachivers out there, sift! Seperately combine the milk and margarine (or butter, if you swing that way), and heat it gently in the microwave, unti the margarine is melted, and the milk is just lukewarm. It does not need to be any warmer than a baby bottle would be, that is to say, if you can't comfortably touch it, let it cool before proceeding. (We don't want the egg cooked now!)Then crack the egg into the milk and margarine mixture and lightly beat it in. You want the egg to dissapear, and the mixture to have an even, creamy colour.Pour the wet mix over the dry mix and stir until just combined and smooth looking, then let it sit for two minutes or so, while you tend to your griddle, and flipping utensils and such.Finally, dish out the pancake, perhaps a 1/4 cup for each, (if you want the recommended 8 servings above) and grill until cooked.For those new to pancake cookery, you can tell the first side is cooked when the bubbles that rise through the dough don't dissapear after bursting, instead they leave little craters near the edge. At that point, flip. Cook the other side for about 2 or 3 minutes, or until it sounds hollow when you thump it.
