How Do I Make Basic White Sauce?

Here is how you make Basic White Sauce:

Use a quart sized saucepan. Melt the butter over medium heat. When it is completely melted, remove from heat and whisk in flour until there are no lumps. Whisk in salt and pepper & any other seasonings and return to heat. Cook and stir until it sizzles for a minute or so. Gradually stir in milk, whisking the whole time so it doesn't lump. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until it boils. It should now be thick & ready to go. For seasonings, you can add a sprinkle of basil, parsley, rosemary, or whatever you like. For cheese sauce, add 1/2 - 1 cup of shredded or cubed cheese. For bacon sauce, add 1/4 - 1/3 cup bacon bits. Neither bacon nor cheese is included in the nutritional content of this recipe.
