3 large stalks Celery, sliced diagonally
1 lb Baby Carrots
1 1/4 lb Beef, round steak
1/3 cup Flour - all purpose
1/2 tsp Salt, to taste
1/2 tsp Pepper, to taste
14 1/2 oz canned Stewed Tomatoes
1/2 jar Aunt Nellie's whole onions
Small can Mushrooms, drained
1 can (10.5 oz) Beef consomm?
1/2 cup Red Wine
1 tsp Brown Sugar
2 tsp kitchen bouquet
1 pkg (10 oz) Mixed Vegetables, frozen

1/4 cup Flour - Gold medal all purpose flour
1/4 cup Water

Here is how you make *Cathy's Beef Stew:

Slow Cooker:Par boil potatoes and carrots for approx. 15 mins.Quickly brown meat in large skillet to sear; drain well.Place beef in slow cooker. Combine 1/3 cup flour with salt & pepper; toss with beef to coat thoroughly.Add all vegetables (*see note) except tomatoes to slow cooker and mix well.Combine consomme, wine, sugar and kitchen bouquet. Pour over meat and vegetables; stir carefully. Add drained tomatoes and stir well.Cover and cook on Low setting for 10 to 14 hrs or on High setting for 4 to 5 1/2 hrs.One hour before serving, turn to High setting. Make a paste of 1/4 cup flour and the water; stir into slow cooker.Cover and cook until thick.*Note: For better color, add frozen vegetables during the last hour.Stove Top:(Do Not Drain Tomatoes)Par-boil potatoes, carrots and celery for 10 minutes. Brown beef in large skillet to sear; drain well.Place beef in large pot; coar with 1/3 cup flour, salt & pepper. Add all remaining ingredients, Except 1/4 cup flour, 1/4 cup water and frozen vegetables. Cook over med-low heat for 2 1/2 to 3 hrs. 1/2 hr before serving, make a paste of remaining flour and water. Stir into stew, add frozen vegetables. *Note: If stew becomes too thick during first 2 hrs add 1/2 to 1 cup water.Serving Size: 6 servings
