1/2 head of cabbage
4 medium potatoes
1 small onion
1 medium beet
1 large carrot
3 medium tomatoes

How Do I Make Borscht?

Here is how you make Borscht:

Fill a large pot with water to within an inch of the top and add beef. Bring to boil, add two tablespoons of salt, lower the heat to "low" and let simmer for 90 minutes.Remove the meat from the broth and allow to cool on a separate plate, add the cabbage, pepper and potatoes, finely sliced, to the broth and bring to low boil.Chop the onion and carrot into thin slices and fry in a little oil until the onions are translucent add the beet, also finely sliced and tomatoes, chopped. Add 1/2 cup broth and allow to stew, covered, for about 5 minutes.
