Gently fry for a few minutes until they begin to soften.Add the chickpeas, smoked paprika, bay leaves, tomato puree, and tomatoes and bring up to a simmer. Add the water and seasoning and bring back to a boil. Lower the heat and simmer for a further 10 minutes.Discard the bay leaves. Let the soup cool slightly and then process half the mixture in a blender.
