1. In large sauce pan saute the onion & garlic in the oil until soft (5-6min.)2. Add in broth, dried split peas, water, ham, ham bone & bay leaf.3. Bring to a boil.4. Reduce heat to med-low & simmer for about 2 hrs or until soup thickens.5. Add pepper.NOTE: Add diced carrots in the last hour of cooking.6. After 2 hours are up or soup is thick remove ham bone & bay leaf.NOTE: Soup can be pureed @ this point if desired.7.
