Once cool enough to handle peel potatoes and cut up into bite size pieces. Cook bacon in soup pot. After bacon is cooked remove bacon from the pot and cook the onion in the bacon grease until onion turns white. Add flour, make sure the fire/heat is real low. Stir well, cook for 1 min stirring constantly. Add chicken broth slowly, stir well. Cook over med heat til thick. Add potatoes, 1/2 &1/2, garlic, basil, salt and pepper. Simmer 10 minutes over low heat. Add 1/2 the cheese cook til cheese melts.
