Here is how you make Simplest Oven-Roasted Squash Soup:

First, preheat oven to 350 degrees. Then: 1. Cut the squash into pieces roughly one inch by one-half inch in size. Remove seeds and place them in a bowl filled with water. 2. Quarter onions and peel garlic. Chop turnips (or, per original recipe, parsnip/carrots. Place squash and veggies on the baking sheet. 3. Drizzle a little olive oil over the vegetables and place in the oven. 4. If making seeds, top with freshly ground salt and pepper and place in oven on a parchment-lined baking sheet. 5. Every 10 minutes, stir vegetables and seeds. Cook vegetables until squash is soft, about 40 minutes. Roast seeds until they are crispy (this should happen fairly quickly, in 10-15 minutes. Remove from the stove and allow vegetables to cool to the touch. 6. Removed roasted veggies from oven. Place them in a dutch oven or other stove top-appropriate container and cover with vegetable stock. 7. Turn the heat to medium and season with herbs, white pepper and salt. Allow to come to a boil. 8. Puree with an immersion or stand mixer. Be careful not to burn yourself! 9. Return to the pot (if not using an immersion blender) and continue cooking until service, adjusting seasonings as desired. Watch carefully as this thick soup has a tendency splatter. 10.
