Our family loves the tast of cabbage rolls, but I don't like to take the time to tediously roll each one. I developed this recipe based on my mother-in-law's. What Are The Ingredients For VT's Cabbage "Rolls" - Lazy Style Recipe?The ingredients for VT's Cabbage "Rolls" - Lazy Style are: 1 head of cabbage1 1/2 pounds ground round 1/2 cup onion, chopped (about 1/2 onion) 2/3 cup brown rice, dry (about 2 cups cooked) 2 Tbs butter, unsalted 1 cup tomato sauce (about 8 oz canned) How Do I Make VT's Cabbage "Rolls" - Lazy Style?Here is how you make VT's Cabbage "Rolls" - Lazy Style: In a large pot of boiling water, place cabbage head. Carefully remove leaves one at a time. Allow to boil for a about 3 minutes until softened and bright green. If you cook it too long it will shred! Remove leaves from pot to cool and peel a few more leaves from the stem. Continue until all leaves are "wilted". After leaves cool, pare the thick stems. Set aside. Meanwhile, in a medium pot prepare brown rice according to package directions. Set aside. In a large skilled brown beef. Add onion toward the end of the cooking time. Cook until onions are translucent. Drain excess fat and set aside. In a large bowl or pot, combine rice, meat, and butter. Lightly coat a 13x9 glass pan with cooking spray. Place 1/2 of the cabbage leaves on the bottom of the pan. Evenly spread the meat mixture on top of that. Place the remaining leaves on top of that. Spread the tomoato sauce over the top of the cabbage. Cover and bake at 325 for about an hour - may go longer at a slower oven. Allow to cool for about 1/2 hour before serving. This dish keeps its heat very well. If desired, may make cabbage rolls by placing meat mixture onto individual leaves and tightly rolling them starting at the stem side. Tuck in the sides after the first roll to make a neat roll.
