Here is how you make Easy Homemade Chili:

Cook ground beef in a frying pan. Add all ingredients to a slow cooker. Do not add extra water (the water from the canned beans will be enough liquid). Add spices to taste (ie. chili powder, salt, pepper, paprika, etc). Cook on low for about 6-8 hours, or on high for about 3-4 hours. If cooking on HIGH, you may want to stir the chili once or twice while it's cooking. You do NOT have to add maple syprup if you don't want to...
