2 15.5 oz. cans no salt diced tomato or 1 28 oz. can of same
2 tablespoons masa harina
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 rounded tablespoon cumin powder


How Do I Make Mom's Chili?

Here is how you make Mom's Chili:

Brown meat on medium heat.Add onion and garlic. Cook until onions are translucent.Add beans and tomatoes. Drop heat until at a gentle simmer. Cover and cook for 20-30 minutes. Add water if necessary.Take the masa harina, cumin, chili powder and mix in a bowl. Add enough water to make a pourable mixture of the same consistency as pancake batter.Remove a large spoonful of the meat/tomato mixture and add to the masa mixture, tempering it. Add this all back to the pot and stir thoroughly to blend.Cook for 15-20 minutes more.Makes 6 1 cup servings.Personally, I top this with grated extra sharp cheddar cheese and chopped green onions.
