I saw a movie a while back where the main character's mother was frying an egg inside a slice of bread. Looked good, thought I'd try that with lower fat, healthier ingredients. What Course Is Egg Nestled in Toast?Egg Nestled in Toast is for Breakfast. How Long Does Egg Nestled in Toast Recipe Take To Prepare?Egg Nestled in Toast takes several minutes to prepare. How Long Does Egg Nestled in Toast Recipe Take To Cook?Egg Nestled in Toast takes several minutes to cook. How Many Servings Does Egg Nestled in Toast Recipe Make?Egg Nestled in Toast makes 1 servings. What Are The Ingredients For Egg Nestled in Toast Recipe? The ingredients for Egg Nestled in Toast are: 1 slice whole grain toast (I used a thin, 1/2 serving slice of Artisan Natural Whole Grain bread from Hy-Vee's bakery)1/2 tbsp Promise Buttery Spread, divided 1 large egg 1/8 cup (1/2 serving) Fat Free Mozzarella cheese, shredded salt and pepper to taste How Do I Make Egg Nestled in Toast? Here is how you make Egg Nestled in Toast: 1. Smear a thin layer of the Promise Buttery Spread onto one side of the bread. Smear the remainder of the buttery spread onto the frying pan and turn the heat on to medium (no higher or you could burn your toast before the egg is done).2. Cut the middle out of the bread, approx. 1/4 inch from edge, leaving the circle in-tact. Set middle piece aside.3. Place the buttery side of the outer portion of the bread down onto the pan. Crack open and pour the egg into the "hole" of the bread. Sprinkle with small amount of salt and pepper.4. Add the "middle" piece, buttery side down to toast at the side of the pan as you continue cooking. Only partially cook the egg to your liking (I scrambled mine inside the bread "hole" with my spatula) before turning it over to finish cooking on the other side. Some may spill out as you turn it over, that's OK. If you wish, add more salt and pepper at this time. Then turn the "middle" piece over.5. Add the shredded cheese to the top of the egg, top with the "middle" piece of the bread. Cover with lid for 30 seconds or so to melt the cheese, or place the food on a microwave-safe plate, cover with a paper towel and microwave on high for 15 seconds to melt the cheese (that's how I did mine). This is a VERY versatile recipe - you can cook the egg the way you want it, change the type of bread or the type of cheese depending upon your preferences. You could use less or more of the buttery spread or use a cooking spray such as "Pam" for the pan. I prefer a buttery taste. You could even add other toppings, such as mushrooms, veggies, etc. to turn it into an omelet. These extra ingredients could be sauteing along side the egg/toast or you could saute them first and add them as you're cooking the first side. Keep in mind, the size of the "hole" limits how much it will hold so keep the added ingredients to very small amounts.Makes 1 serving. Calorie and nutrient counts vary depending upon the type of bread you use, size of the egg, additional ingredients, etc.. Mine was made with only the ingredients listed above, with one large egg and a THIN slice of Natural Whole Grain artisan bread - the total entree was 208 calories. To make this into a satisfying and nutritious meal, eat with fresh fruit or nonfat yogurt.Number of Servings: 1Recipe submitted by SparkPeople user MBTHOMPSON.What's The Nutritional Info For Egg Nestled in Toast? The nutritional information for Egg Nestled in Toast is:
