How Do I Make Three-Grain Porridge (Adapted from Weight Watchers magazine)?

Here is how you make Three-Grain Porridge (Adapted from Weight Watchers magazine):

Makes 6-1 cup servings.NOTE: Weight Watchers recommends using 1/2 cup barley, 1/3 cup wheat berries and 1/3 cup groats or Kamut berries, but I didn't have groats or Kamut... so I added more barley. ALSO, they call for 1/2 cup dried apricots, but I'm not fond of them, so I left them out.Bring water, juice (or cider), barley, wheat berries, cinnamon stick and salt to a boil in a large, heavy sauce pan.Reduce heat, partially cover and cook at a low boil, stirring frequently, until grains are softened and most of the liquid is absorbed (about 50 minutes).Remove saucepan from heat; discard cinnamon stick. Stir in maple syrup.Transfer to 6 (1 cup) microwave freezable containers and let cool. Cover and freeze up to 2 months. For each serving, partially uncover 1 container. Microwave on MEDIUM until thawed (1 1/2 - 2 minutes). Transfer to a small maicrowaveable bowl along with 1/2 cup milk. Microwave on HIGH until hot (about 1 minute) stirring aonce halfway through cooking time.Number of Servings: 6Recipe submitted by SparkPeople user SKMC75.
