This is a recipe that I modified to have no nuts for my husband with a nut allergy, it is an item for modoration as a half a cup is a serving but it is very nutition and full of fibre and protien for energy, great in the morning with skim milk or in chunk form like a granola bar.. Delicious!!

The ingredients for Organic Granola - Nut Free are:

1.25 cup - Maple Syrup
1.25 cup - Brown Rice Syrup


8 cup - Oats
2 cup - hulled Sunflower Seeds without salt
2 cup - hulled Pumpkin Seeds without salt
1 cup - Sesame Seeds
0.25 cup - hemp seeds, (optional)
1 cup - dried diced Apricots
1 cup - Raisins, packed


2 tsp - Pure Vanilla Extract
1 tbsp - Ground Cinnamon
1 tsp - Nutmeg ground (optional)
0.5 tsp - Cardamom ground (optional)



Ingredients notes
- if you would like this recipe to be organic be sure to buy everything organic
-the seeds must have the shells removed (hulled)
-it is also best to buy the seeds raw
-any amount of the seeds can be subbed for nuts or other seeds and
-the dried fruit can be subbed for other dried fruit
-the oats can be subbed for other grains
-i.e. you can try pecans and dried cranberries
- I personally enjoy grinding the spices from from whole I think it tastes better (nutmeg and cardamom)

Here is how you make Organic Granola - Nut Free:

This recipe makes 30 1/2 cup servings - it stores well in large zip bags or storage containersyou will need: a very large bowl a pot a baking sheet parchment paper a spatula (the egg flipping variety)Pre heat the oven to 350 degrees measure both syrups into a pot and gently heat to loosen then set aside mix together the oats, seeds, and dried fruit it a very large bowl (I have to use my soup pot !)mix the vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and cardamom into the syrup mixture (an imersion blender is helpful)pour the syrup mixure into the dry ingredients and incorporate well (use your clean hands if nessisary)spread the granola onto baking tray no more than an inch thick per baking sheet put in the oven for approximately 10 minutesremove to stir folding in the edges to the centre and re spreading (to prevent burning) then put back in the oven for 5- 10 minutes till edges are slightly brown (It will harden apon cooling)remove from oven and spread onto parchment paper - if you would like a cereal texture then spread loosely and when cooled store and enjoy (skim milk or not fat yogurt is an exelent pairing)- if you would like bars or clusters then spread on the parchement paper and press down with a spatula when the top has dried then use the spatula to flip it over in sections then once dried on the other side break or cut apart and store enjoy !!!Number of Servings: 30Recipe submitted by SparkPeople user SARAHPOWER.
