3/4 c boiling water
1 c 2% milk
1 pinch of salt
1 tsp vanilla extract


How Do I Make Stovetop Steel Cut Oats?

Here is how you make Stovetop Steel Cut Oats:

Toast the oats with one tablespoon of butter, or less, however much you desire, for approximately 5 minutes. SLOWLY add 3 cups boiling water and salt while stirring, this will bubble up and you don't want it to overflow. Cook for 25 minutes at a simmer, stirring occassionally. You'll want to stir more often as it thickens so it doesn't stick to the bottom. Combine vanilla and milk and add, I use 2% because that's what we have, but you can certainly use whatever you want. Bring back to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes. Let it cool sufficiently then you can freeze it in individual portions or stick it in the fridge and parse it out as you need it.
