Here is how you make Fluffy Whole Wheat Buttermilk Pancakes:

Beat egg in bowl; add buttermilk and beat until combined. Add oil if desired, but I never use it (helps oil the griddle). On top of buttermilk, sprinkle flour, then flaxseed meal, then baking powder, baking soda and salt. Mix with a fork until just combined; mix in 1-3 T. cool water to lighten if necessary.
