Wash & dry figs. Cut in half. In a regular saute pan (not non stick) melt butter and saute figs over medium heat, cut side down, until they become carmelized. Remove figs and set aside. Reduce heat and Immediately add vinegar, port, water and black pepper. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly until sauce thickens. Spoon sauce over figs and serve immediately.
