1.5 cups AP flour + .5 cups whole wheat flour
1.5 cups granulated sugar
1 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp salt
.25-.5 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp instant espresso powder
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup applesauce
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1 cup water
1/4 cup nonfat greek yogurt + 1/4 cup almond milk
(or water) mixed until smooth (OR 1/2 cup
buttermilk)
2 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract

FROSTING
1/2 cup nonfat greek ygourt (or butter if you want!)
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1 t of instant espresso powder
1/4 cup milk
4 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract


How Do I Make Spicy Chocolate Cake?

Here is how you make Spicy Chocolate Cake:

Mix together all dry cake ingredients except the cocoa powder. Melt butter and heat with applesauce, water, and cocoa powder (mix then microwave for a minute- repeat until boiling- or do it on the stove). Mix boiling wet ingredients into dry. Mix in the yogurt/milk mixture. Make sure the batter isn't too hot- then add in eggs and vanilla. Pour into greased 13x9 baking pan and bake for 25-28 minutes. While that bakes, mix up the frosting- dissolve the cocoa powder and espresso powder into the milk and vanilla. Whip with the greek yogurt vigorously. Add in the powdered sugar and whip well. Place in fridge for 30 minutes (after the cake comes out let it cool for a while!). When cake has cooled for a few, pull out frosting, re-whip briefly, frost and serve!
