2 1/4c sugar
3 eggs
2tsp vanilla
1c applesauce
6c sifted flour
1 tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
2 tsp nutmeg

Here is how you make Civil War applesauce sugar cookies:

Pre heat oven to 375 FIn a meduim mixing bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and nutmeg. In the bowl of an electric mixer, (or a hand held mixer) cream butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Add applesauce and mix well. Add sifted dry ingredients and blend well. Drop by heaping tablespoons on a cookie stone. if you don't have a cookie stone such as one by Pampered Cheff than you can use a regular cookie sheet that has been greased. Flatten and sprinkle lightly with sugar.
