Cook onion until lightly browned. You may need to add small amounts of water from time to time as you cook it. Then add the cooked onion to the bean mixture in the casserole dish. Stir well and cook uncovered in the oven for about 1-1/2 hours. Check and stir after cooking for a little over an hour to make sure there is enough liquid -- you may need to add a little water.This makes 6 servings of 1/2 cup each.
