Season the chicken pieces with salt and pepper. In a medium enameled cast iron casserole, combine the chicken with the coarsly chopped onion and the chicken broth and bring to a boil. In a small bowl, mix the spices. Stir the spice mixture into the broth. cover and simmer over low heat, turning the chicken pieces once, until done (about 40 minutes). Remove the chicken, add the minced onion, tomatoes, lemon juice and artichok hearts to the broth and simmer about 5 minutes. Add the peas and return the chicken to the casserole and simmer until heated through. Serve in shallow bowls.
