1/2 tbs canola oil
1 cup cornmeal
1/2 cup all purpose flour
2 tbs baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 large egg
1/4 cup canola oil
1/2 cup buttermilk (light 1/5% fat)


How Do I Make Grandma's Cornbread?

Here is how you make Grandma's Cornbread:

Put 1/2 tsp oil in iron skillet. Put in oven and preheat to 425 degrees. Combine conrnmeal, flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt in bowl. Add egg, 1/4 cup oil, ad buttermilk. Mix well. Batter should be thick, but pourable. (Add additional buttermilk if necessary). Remove skillet from oven, and tip side to side to coat all surfaces with oil. (You can wipe out some of the excess with paper towl.) Immediately pour batter into hot skillet and bake for 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
