2 cups turkey gravy (skimmed of all fat)
2 1/2 cups mashed potatoes


How Do I Make Shepardess Pie?

Here is how you make Shepardess Pie:

Spray a 13x9 pan with non stick cooking spray to coat. Pre heat oven to 425 degrees. Shred 2 cups or so of turkey meat and combine in pan with veggies. Add the skimmed turkey gravy (see end of recipe for skimming tips) and stir well to combine.Top dish with small spoonfulls of mashed potatoes, to make a nice covering; it will be completely covered, but a fairly thin layer of the potatoes.Bake at 425 for 15-20 min, stir well, then reduce to 350 for another 20 min or so, till warmed throughMakes 8 generous servings; merely divide the entire dish into 8 fairly equal portions**Note** Short of a skimmer that is already designed for this, I have found the best way to skim gravies, sauces, or any thing else is to pour the entire contents into a large bowl and refrigerate till solid.Since most of this recipe is things that would be leftover from a holiday type meal, refrigerating all the ingredients overnight would not be uncommon any way. During the cooling, all of the fat will rise to the top of the bowl, leaving a rather nasty looking, congealed goo on top of your gravy or sauce. Simply scrape or spoon out all of this fatty mess and throw it away.
