While potatoes are boiling, finely dice onions, melt butter in soup pot. Saute onions in butter until translucent. Add canned clams with juice, clam juice, corn and spices. Bring to simmer. Turn heat to low. When potatoes are soft, strain them. Put half into soup. Mash the other half with .5 cup of milk, add to soup (to thicken).
