1. Wash and strain the rice2. Toast the rice on a low heat in a large heavy bottomed saucepan.3. When the rice is toasted (it should be golden brown and not at all burnt), add the ghee. You should have a sweet, nutty aroma.4. Add the water and turn up the heat. Bring the water to the boil.5. Add the bala and salt. Allow the water to boil for 15 mins.6. Turn down the heat and simmer for another 75 mins. (If you are in a hurry, you can simmer for 30 mins, but the herb is quite bitter. The longer you simmer the herb, the less bitter it becomes.)7.
