1.5 cups dried chickpeas, soaked overnight
1 large white onion
5 scallions
6 cloves garlic
1 bunch parsley
1 bunch cilantro
2 tsp ground cumin
2 tsp ground coriander
cayenne
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp baking soda
Kosher salt
fresh ground black pepper
oil, for shallow frying


How Do I Make Falafel?

Here is how you make Falafel:

1. soak chickpeas overnight. drain well. spread out on paper towels and dry slightly.2. roughly chop veggies. add to food processor. puree and remove to a large bowl.3. add chickpeas, cumin, coriander, cayenne, chili powder, salt and pepper to processor. puree.4. add the onion puree back to the processor. add baking soda. puree until smooth and well mixed. add a tiny bit of water if needed to get the mixture to puree properly. 5. transfer mixture back to the bowl. let rest for 15-20 minutes before cooking.6. form patties that are about 2.5 inches in diameter and .5 inch thick.7. heat .25 inch of oil in large skillet over medium heat.8. fry patties on both sides until dark golden brown.9. transfer to paper towels to absorb excess oil. sprinkle with salt.10. serve with fresh or pickled veggies, pita, tahini (sesame paste), tzatziki, red wine vinegar, or any other condiments you like.Serving Size: makes 8 3-patty servingsNumber of Servings: 8Recipe submitted by SparkPeople user WARDAWG1.
