Here is how you make Homemade Vegetarian Refried Beans:

Coat the bottom of a medium skillet (one with high sides is even better) with cooking spray. Over medium-high heat, dump the entire can of pinto beans, liquid and all, into the pan. Bring the liquid to a boil, then turn the heat down to simmer. Let the beans simmer for a minute, then take a potato masher or slotted spatula/spoon and begin to mash the beans. Continue to mash and stir the beans until they reach the desired consistency. Stir in salsa. Sprinkle the top with a dusting of shredded cheese, then cover and simmer until the cheese is melted.
