1/4 cup molasses (4 TBS)

Here is how you make Pinto Beans New England Style:

Put oil, bacon, onion and carrots in saucepan and cook, stirring occasionally until bacon is crisp and vegetables are softened, about 5 min. Add garlic and cook for another minute. Add remaining ingredients - beans, broth, barbecue sauce, ketchup and mustard, molasses, brown sugar and water. Bring to boil and cook for about 25 minutes. Pour all into crock pot and cook on high for 6 hours or until beans are nice and soft. The key is to make sure you have pre-soaked the beans following instructions on the bag or using your preferred method. I boil the beans for 2 minutes in water that cover them by 2 inches, then remove from heat, cover and let sit for several hours or overnight.
