Salt How Do I Make Healthier Irish Soda Bread?Here is how you make Healthier Irish Soda Bread: 1. Preheat Oven to 375 Degrees.If using a baking stone, put the stone in the oven now.2. If you are using buttermilk from a dry mix, mix it up right now & set it aside.3. Put all of the dry ingredients into a large mixing bowl.Mix them together.4. Cut the butter into the mixed ingredients. Stir until mixture is like fine crumbs. Using a pastry blender helps.5. Fold in the 1% Milk to the mixture. Then, slowly mix in the buttermilk, only adding what you need to mix the ingredients. You may not use all of the buttermilk, The dough should come away from the bowl, but not sticky to the touch. If you like raisins, you can add 1/3 Cup to the dough.6. On a lightly floured surface, turn the dough. Knead until smooth approximately 2 minutes.7. Shape into a round loaf about 6 & 1/2 inches in diameter.8. If using a baking stone, put cornmeal on peel and place the loaf on the peel. If you are using a cookie sheet, grease the sheet prior to placing the bread on it.9. Cut an X about 1/2 inch deep through the loaf with a floured knife. 10. Place loaf in the oven & bake until a golden brown approximately 35-45 minutes.11. After removing bread from the oven, put on baking rack or leave on peel for 10 minutes. 12. Cut & Serve.
