What Are The Ingredients For Skillet Cornbread Recipe?The ingredients for Skillet Cornbread are: ~1C plain cornmeal, white or yellow2 handfuls (~ 1/2 C) self rising flour 1 large egg 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt ~ 1C buttermilk, 1% 1/4 C vegetable shortening How Do I Make Skillet Cornbread?Here is how you make Skillet Cornbread: Place vegetable shortening in 8" cast iron skillet. Place skillet in a cold oven, then turn the oven on to 375 F.Next:Combine all dry ingredients in a bowl.Add add and buttermilk. Stir to combine. Consistency should be that of a medium thick pancake batter (pourable). Please note that the buttermilk is an approximation. Add enough to get the correct consistency.When skillet and oven have reached 375 F, remove pan from oven and pour batter in. It should pouf up around the edges. Please remember both the pan and now liquid shortening are HOT and you can be burned if you are not paying attention! Place the pan back in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a knife or toothpick stuck in the center comes out clean.Cut into pie shaped wedges.
