Here is how you make Cornmeal Hushpuppies:

1) In a larger bowl, mix the cornmeal, flour, salt, sugar, baking powder, and finely grated onion. 2) In a medium sized bowl, whisk the egg and mix in the milk. 3) Add the milk and egg to the flour mixture, and mix well. Let the mixture sit for a while, to firm up a bit.4) Heat about 1 cup oil in a small pan, to about 375'F, and drop in small spoon size dollops of the batter. Fry them until the underside becomes lightly browned, then flip them, and fry them until the other side becomes golden brown as well. (I list 1/4 cup oil only, as that was the amount absorbed, for calculation purposes.)
