Heat 1 tsp of the butter and about 1/2 tsp of the oil in a pan. Add onions and cook till golden while you chop other ingredients. Thinly slice the chard stems separately from more coarsely sliced leaves. Next, add the garlic and ginger to the pan and brown them along with crushed chilies if desired. Once they are starting to brown, add the 2nd tsp of butter and the chard stems. Cook till soft (may have to cover the pan to steam them a bit).
