Scald milk (to 180 degrees) and add butter. Let cool to at least 90 degrees. In dish, heat 1/2 cup water to 80-90 degrees. Add yeast and sugar. Let proof for 5-10 minutes. In mixing bowl, add milk/butter mixture, yeast/water mixture, 1/2 cup water, salt and 2 cups of the flour. Cover mixing bowl and let rise in warm place (about 85 degrees) for 1 1/2 hours, or until it collapses back into the bowl.
