Place potatoes whole in a medium pot and cover with water. Bring to boil over high heat. Add salt. Reduce heat to medium high and boil uncovered until potatoes are easily pierced by fork, 10 to 15 minutes. Drain potatoes and return to pot. Mash coarsely with potato masher, add milk, salt and pepper and mash till desired consistency.
