Mom's Irish NOT-Soda Bread

Our family got this recipe from an Irish lady who lived across the street from us. She said that her Irish bread was "the real thing" because it wasn't made with baking soda. She was ?right off the boat? from Ireland. She said this was the only bread she ever made - and that she made two loaves every day. It is excellent toasted with butter. It is also .a little better the second day after the bread has firmed and the caraway has blended in.Though it is not "diet friendly" it is our family tradition so I had to count it. I thought I'd share it with others because it is worth the calories! Enjoy!
